The College & Career Lab Exploratory Stage introduces rising 8th and 9th-grade students to a variety of college-level subjects offered at New York University’s various schools and colleges.
Through classes and workshops, students gain inspiration and insight into academic and career pathways, and interact with university faculty, students, alumni, and industry professionals.
Participants of the Exploratory Stage will gain valuable skills, such as identity development, self-advocacy, and networking, that will help them thrive in their academic and career pursuits.
Students who enroll in and complete the CCL summer program are expected to participate in one Practice Lab session in the fall and spring semesters each year and should consider themselves a CCL Scholar until they complete the program, the summer after high school graduation. All students will receive a completion certificate, NYU transcript with the non-credit program listed, and have first priority to participate in all future College & Career Lab programming.
Students of all backgrounds* who meet the following eligibility requirements are eligible to apply:
*Economically disadvantaged, first-generation college-going, and students of color are encouraged to apply.
**Students attending homeschools, parochial, or independent schools with unique circumstances or scholarships are welcome to apply & should note this in the additional information section on the application.

College & Career Lab will run 100% in-person at NYU’s Washington Square campus. The program does not have an online or hybrid option.
Tracks are how students are placed into the program.

CCL is designed to be a six year program, and after completing both tracks students get to choose the course offerings that are within their interests in the Immersive Stage.
The Tisch School of the Arts will enable students to experience a range of artistic disciplines that support the fundamental premise, that studying the arts is central to becoming an educated citizen of the world.
Leonard Stern School of Business is one of the world’s most recognized leaders and innovators in business education. During the week at Stern, students will be introduced to a set of core subjects at the heart of business–economics, accounting, marketing, technology, and entrepreneurship–taught by some of the School’s leading faculty. The daily, high-velocity, academic short courses will be complemented by meet-and-greets with Stern alumni who are rising leaders in the business world, representing companies like Facebook, Google, EY, and others, as well as an entrepreneur who has founded a company while an undergraduate NYU student! They will share their first-hand experiences of pursuing a business education and then forging careers with their skills and networks.
Students will take classes with New York University School of Law professors and learn about important and timely issues that affect New Yorkers. Students will attend lectures and participate in small group discussions and exercises related to topics such as free speech, criminal law, and immigration.
Students will take classes with Tandon School of Engineering professors and learn about civil engineering, computer science, ethics in artificial intelligence, and more. Students will attend lectures, participate in small group discussions, and explore through hands-on activities.
The health sciences week will be an introduction to NYU Grossman School of Medicine, the Neuroscience Institute, and Rory Meyers College of Nursing. Through hands-on activities and lectures from faculty and professionals in the field, students will learn about what it takes to enter into one of these career tracks.
At NYU School of Global Public Health students are exposed to the global nature of public health, emphasizing the ways in which populations and environments interact across the globe to shape health outcomes. Students are introduced to key approaches and current issues in the field of public health, both in the United States and throughout the world.
Students will take classes with NYU Steinhardt faculty that introduce them to the variety of academic programs and career paths Steinhardt has to offer. From learning about careers in occupational and physical therapy, higher education, media studies, sustainabilty, music, and music professions, and food studies – students will combine inquiry in the liberal arts and sciences with hands-on activities.
Students will learn about the various academic studies that are part of NYU’s College of Arts and Science, the largest undergraduate college, take leadership development courses and be exposed to university life offices to get a full view of NYU. Sessions from faculty at the Silver School of Social Work and Wagner School of Public Service will be included in this week.
In the last half of the week, students will be introduced to careers in dentistry at the College of Dentistry that includes key thinking behind providing the best oral health care, engaging in research, scholarship, and creative endeavors to improve the health of the highly diverse populations in New York City and around the world.
